This journey through Oman combines everything people love about the country: mountains, wadi canyons, desert, sea, and scenic roads. In just one week, we’ll see a completely different side of the Arabian Peninsula — not just sand, but also high mountains, terraces, cool gorges with natural pools, and quiet coastal spots.

The route begins in Muscat and passes through the mountain regions of Jebel Shams and Jebel Akhdar, the Wahiba Sands desert, the Raz al Jins coast, and picturesque wadis. We’ll go trekking, swim in natural pools, go canyoning in Snake Canyon, spend a night in the desert under the stars, and travel in 4x4 jeeps.

This journey is for those who want to experience Oman actively, beautifully, and without the feeling of mass tourism.

Landscapes
When we picture the Arabian Peninsula in our minds, we imagine it as 99% desert and 1% Dubai with luxury cars. With Oman, the situation is different. It has mountains, a vast coastline, and, of course, desert. And when all three come together, they create unique landscapes — where sometimes even snow falls.
Starry sky
Nowhere and never will you see such a starry sky as in the desert. That’s exactly what I wrote about the Atacama — but it fully applies to Oman as well. And to any region where the desert dominates. The endless starry sky of the northern hemisphere will be with us throughout the journey.
Wadis
You’ll hear this word a hundred times — and you’ll definitely remember it. A wadi is a riverbed where water flows irregularly. If rain falls in the mountains, the water rushes through the wadi, carving new patterns into it. But when the rain stops, the flow in the wadi also stops. Yet many wadis still hold stunningly beautiful pools and basins — perfect for swimming.
Canyoning
Where would we be without a bit of friendly madness! It’s definitely happening! If you haven’t tried it yet, this is something you absolutely have to experience at least once. It starts with a jump into the water from a small height. I’ll stop describing it there — otherwise you might back out. It will be a completely safe adventure, with professionals guiding us and showing us exactly where to put each foot.
Where we stay
We’ll be staying in beautiful and varied accommodations — modern hotels, traditional guesthouses, desert tents, and seaside cabins. Everywhere will be comfortable and of a very good standard. Accommodation is planned for double occupancy.
ROUTE BY DAY
Muscat — Bilad Sayt
There’s no point in reading these names — you won’t remember them even once you’re there. But I have to write them because I love toponyms. Today we’ll discover what a wadi is, go on our first trek, and start exploring the off-road. Off-roading and 4x4 driving are the key features of Oman. Our goal is to spend the night right near Snake Canyon.
Snake Canyon — Jebel Shams
Canyoning today — right now. Like snakes, we’ll make our way through Snake Canyon, following a well-chosen route. Afterward, we’ll head to our accommodation in Jebel Shams — simply stunning beauty and comfort. The hotel is located in a place you’ll definitely remember!
Balcony Walk - Jebel Akhdar
A proper hike awaits! The highest mountains in Oman, with grand canyons all around. By evening, we’ll arrive in Jebel Akhdar — the Green Mountains — and stay in a place with an incredible view of the Omani terraces.
Wahiba Sands
In the morning, terraced fields with fruit trees and abandoned villages await us. A light two-hour walk, then we’ll head into the sands. In the afternoon, we’ll be in the desert, at a cozy little camp — closer to the stars and the silence.
Raz al Jins
In the morning, you can go dune bashing, watch the sunrise, ride camels, or take a quad bike. Our Bedouin hosts will show and tell you everything. Afterward, we’ll head toward the sea and arrive at a place where sea turtles live. Their nesting season is from July to September, when the outside temperature is +45872°C (just kidding). In winter, the chances of seeing them are lower, but still possible — people regularly spot these sand bulldozers.
Wadi al Arbayeen
We’ve already seen many wadis, but we haven’t stayed overnight in one yet. A wadi awaits us — and a hotel where none other than Prince William of Wales once hung out.

Muscat
Today we won’t rush into the city. Instead, we’ll calmly take in all the most epic locations. Upon arriving in Muscat, we’ll visit the opera house (just the building itself — no performances are scheduled).
